Site search

Filter 19,461 candidate sites near substations in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Germany, 731 of them Dutch business parks with land for sale, by area, distance to the substation, its voltage, headroom or congestion, the nearest transmission substation, distance to Natura 2000, zoning, kind of site, environmental category, permits nearby, farmland price and water stress, ranked by site score. Every result links to its site page. Each country keeps its 5,000 largest candidates, so it holds every candidate of 29 ha or more in the Netherlands (of 22,834 candidates), 27 ha or more in the United Kingdom (of 44,093 candidates) and 50 ha or more in Germany (of 308,259 candidates).

Filter sites

Results update as you type and the address bar keeps the filters, so a search can be shared. Each country offers the filters its public data allows. Distance, voltage, headroom and network operator are those of each site's nearest substation only: a site 0.5 km from a 150 kV substation and 1.5 km from a 380 kV one counts as 150 kV, and a voltage search does not find it. For that, the Netherlands and Germany have a filter on the distance to the nearest 380 kV substation. How the score works: Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany.

24 of the 8,730 sites the search holds for the United Kingdom match: sites in Westminster. Sorted by site score.

Permits nearby: planning projects within 5 km with permission, under construction or applied for (REPD, NSIP) and brownfield land with permission. Water stress: baseline water stress of the site's sub-basin (WRI Aqueduct 4.0): withdrawals as a share of the renewable water supply. Designations: the planning.data.gov.uk designations a site overlaps by 1% of its area or more; "not in" keeps only sites where that designation's data covers the council. Sites: the 5,000 largest of the 44,093 candidate sites near a primary or bulk supply substation with headroom, so every candidate of 27 ha or more is here and the rest are smaller; brownfield register sites come on top, at any size. Congestion: the network operator's status for new demand at the substation.

Use it from a script or an AI

Every search here is one plain GET, with no JavaScript needed. Put the filters in the address and /sites/search answers with the matching sites as an HTML table: the first 100, in the order this page sorts them, with the number of all matches and the filters restated in a sentence. /api/sites takes the same filters and answers JSON: every site's facts as named fields and its page's URL, 100 at a time (limit, up to 1,000, and offset page through the matches). A filter that a country's data lacks is left out, and the answer says which and why.

For AI assistants, every search is also a plain link of /key/value pairs, without a query string, and each answer links to the narrower and wider searches from it: /api/sites is the start, and the API page has the prompt to give Claude or ChatGPT.

Distance, voltage, headroom and network operator are those of each site's nearest substation; in Germany also of its nearest transmission substation.

Examples

The whole index behind this search is one JSON file per country (Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany). Its columns name each site's fields, word fields are indexes into the lists of the same name (dnos, zonings), and a site's page is /sites/{country}/{area slug}/{leaf}.
